The Kamehameha fizzles... June 28, 2008 Ryan L. Lopees (Las Vegas, Nevada) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
What did they do to my precious DBZ fighting game series?
Okay, it looks beautiful. I will admit that. I've heard people say "It's so nice looking that it looks like your are controlling the Anime itself". Well, the graphics actually blow the decade old animation out of the water. It would be nice to see the series re-done using this level of animation.
And the positive reviews stop here. I'm an avid fan of the DBZ series. Esepcially so when it comes to the Budakai Tenkaichi series. I own 1, 2 and 3. Burst Limit is to the DBZ fighting series or games as a one legged grey hound is to dog racing.
I am not sure if they dumbed it down for younger kids, if they just wanted to try something new, or just were too worried about the "pretty face" of the game.
The DBZ: BT series is known for being high-speed, fast-paced, all over the screen action. Burst Limit just shoved 6 metric tons of lead down everyones undergaments. I am used to "rushing" and "dragon homing". Now I get Goku floating across the screen at speeds that would have him paced by balloons at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The controls have definitely been dumbed down. It's really just a matter of "wait till my Ulimate Attack powers up....and fire" system. There's crap for variety.
At most, I would reccomend this game as a rental. I'll be selling mine very shortly.
Not worth full price June 23, 2008 J. Mendoza (Texas, USA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Yes, the game is fun. Yes, it looks very pretty. But unfortunately, the game is way too short, only covering up to the Cell Saga, and then it doesn't even cover all the events taking place up to that. I think only the Saiyan Saga is fully covered, but the rest are not. You don't fight Dodoria or Zarbon, and only two members of the Ginyu appear; only androids #16, 17, and 18 show up; no Cell Jr... I think you get the point. I am fine with actually having less playable characters, but not at the expense of playing through all battles in the series.
As far as gameplay goes, i like the controls. I actually use the analog stick to move the characters. Takes a little getting used to the fact that you can't charge up your Ki, game does it for you. Drama Pieces was a nice little touch, but they should give you the option of turning them off on story mode, cause they don't really add anything spectacular, and many times it throws off your whole momentum when the fight stops to show you a little 5 second scene.
Overall, its worth a rental, not a full price purchase.
a pretty good DBZ game but not the best February 20, 2009 Dee Williams (Cunningham, TX USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The game could had been a lot better about the only they did real good at was the graphics which are kick a**, but other than that it was ok it would had been better if they made the gameplay like Dragonball z Budokai Tenkaichi 3.
For example the 3D range of movement, which I'm deapointed about not having in it. Also, could have completed each story line instead of leaving beats and pieces out, and added alot more characters.
The controls were real good.
The achivements are to hard on higher difficulties, but this game could have been alot better.
BEST DRAGONBALL Z GAME OUT!!! June 12, 2008 Isable Duran (illinos) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought my first ps3 today and i bought the game also and it is so FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!! the moves are awesome and i like the budokai series fighting style one of the most things i like about this game is when theres this fighting where you and opponet are flying and button mashing till one of u guys wins the cutscenes look FANTASTIC!! they look exactly like the anime series so i give this game a 10 out of 10
so i say go buy it if your a fan of the series and game series.
Not Really true to the Source Material August 4, 2010 Red Baron (LA LA Land) Dragon Ball Z is one of my favorite shows, I have been a fan for a while, but the games they have churned out are always lacking it seems to me. The Ps2 games were hit and miss, and the ps3 games seem to be the same, Will write a review for the Raging Blast which is hopefully better then this disappointment of a game. I rented it, and I have to say I have no desire to purchase it, Have played for one day and am almost through the game entirely, Also their are no earth shattering moments, even the strongest attacks seem to be extremely lack luster, and do not damage the environments at all. In some of the previous games the environments changed after the battles, If you used Veggeta's Final Blast the arena was destroyed, no such attacks so far, and that may be because this game only goes to the cell saga. This game is not amazing, it will entertain you for a short while, but probably only if your a die hard dbz fan.
If your a fan of Dragon Ball Z, which you are I am guessing if your reading reviews for this game you understand the size and scope of the attacks, it was what made the show stand out, the kicking people through three mountains, the blasts that took out half the country side, I have been playing and when the cut scene shows a player getting thrown from the sky into the ground, it has been the same generic action over and over, they do not change based on the strength, Goku's regular super move is the same as his ultimate move, which is lame if you ask me, Their is no earth shattering action which is what made the tv show so amazing, the action in the game is the same if first fight as well as the last. I hope that they step up their game, because this is a huge back-step compared to some of the ps2 games which incorporated a lot more action and degree's of attack.
I would look at the other newer game, before this one, and if you must I would rent this you will be done with it in a day and then you can move onto newer better games.
